march recap (+ giveaway!)

Happy April! Somehow we are already on to the fourth month of the year. I'm not sure how that happened so quickly, but here we are!

March was quite a busy month for Quince, with a lot of new releases on both the pattern and yarn fronts. Let's take a look back over the past month, shall we?

New Pattern Collections

We started off the month with the release of Carrie Bostick Hoge's beautiful Slip Stitches collection. Four patterns make up this neutral-pretty set—a cardigan in Lark, a cowl in Osprey, and pullover and hat in Chickadee—each of them featuring fun, clever, and easy slip stitch patterns in soft, natural colors.

The design team, who first brought us the Piper 2016 collection back in February, came back in March for a focus on our spring/summer-friendly linen yarn with Sparrow 2016. Designers Isabell Kraemer, Dianna Walla, Melissa LaBarre, and Pam Allen created some gorgeous lightweight garments for warm-weather wear in our Sparrow linen.

It didn't stop there with the linen love—the design team did it again a few weeks later with the Kestrel 2016 collection, this time around featuring designs in our heavy-worsted weight Kestrel from Dawn Catanzaro, Melissa LaBarre, Bristol Ivy, and Cecily Glowik MacDonald.

New Yarn Colors

Two of our yarn lines also saw new shades added to their palettes. Five pretty colors were added to Lark, our worsted weight wool workhorse (say that three times fast!)—now in Sage, Fox, Shell, Nightshade, and Boreal—bringing Lark's palette up to a veritable paintbox of 60(!) colors.

We also introduced three new shades for our little linen bird Sparrow—now in white Lunar, blue Sky, and black Eclipse.

We can't get enough of these new colors! So many new interesting color combinations are waiting to be discovered.

Last but not least, March also saw the release of our how-to-knit book, Knit: First Stitch/First Scarf and its accompanying Knit Kit, which is loaded with all the goods a first-time knitter needs on hand for completing their first scarf project.

On To Our Giveaway

It is always so inspiring for us to hear how other knitters first began knitting, and how they learned (whether self-taught, with a teacher, class, from internet resources, and so on). With that in mind, we're holding a giveaway!

To enter, leave a comment to this blog post telling us how your knitting journey began. How did you learn? What was your first project? We want to hear your stories. And we want to share the love! One lucky winner will receive a print copy of Knit: First Stitch/First Scarf. Another lucky winner will receive a Knit Kit! The kit includes the book, plus 2 skeins of Osprey, a pair of knitting needles, and a tapestry needle.

The fine print: Entries must be entered by leaving a comment on this blog post (not Facebook, Instagram, or another blog post, but this very one) from now through Monday, April 4th, 2016. Only entries submitted before midnight EDT on Monday will be eligible. Winners will be chosen by random number generator and announced on Tuesday, here on the Quince blog. This contest is open to all readers. If a winner picked is located outside of the United States, winner is responsible for any VAT, import taxes, or customs fees.

We're so looking forward to hearing about your knitting beginnings. Good luck, and have a great weekend, everyone!
