slow gifts: ideas for holiday knitting

Happy Sunday, fiber friends! It's almost that time of year again—yes, somehow, it's here once more. We know some of you are plotting out your oh-too-quickly-dwindling available hours to make gifts for the approaching holidays. We're here to help.

Today we bring you a selection of patterns hand-picked by the Quince staff that we like to think of as "slow gifts"—projects that would be great to start now, a little early on, to have completed and ready for gift-giving. We're of the opinion that gift knitting should be as non-stressful as possible. Much thought and intent goes into the act of giving. The act of making should, ideally, be likewise approached.

Our selection focuses on accessories: Hats, scarves, cowls, mitts. Aside from being an easier commitment time-wise, they have universal appeal (not to mention fit) and are quite appropriate for the cold season we are rushing headlong into here in the northern hemisphere.

Without further ado, here are our Slow Gift picks!

Porthole Beret – a sweet lace hat worked in Finch.

Manaan Cowls (in 2 versions; shown above is the long loop). Designed by Pam Allen in Lark.

Maian shawl designed by Leah B. Thibault, soft and dreamy in Piper.

Pathway by Angela Tong — a cable and textured-stitch scarf in Lark (here shown in Poppy).

Festively colorful Lola, a cowl in Chickadee designed by Barbara Collins.

For the men, cabled Masse mitts designed by Ann Budd, in Lark.

Love these undulating cables in Samantha, a cozy scarf in Osprey by Cecily Glowik MacDonald.

Quite possibly the perfect pair of mitts: Lucy, designed by Dawn Catanzaro in Chickadee.

Scarf Squared by Pam Allen – irresistible textures in sportweight Chickadee.

It was a challenge to narrow down to just the choices shown here, as we each had our very own favorites! Check out our other slow-gift-perfect designs from the links below:
