This waffle rib stitch in this hat is taken directly from the mass-produced casual machine knitwear of seasons past, then worked up quickly, in rows back and forth and seamed afterward, in easy-to-knit Lark yarn. More than likely, the waffle rib first originated with hand knitting, so it really is just being returned to all of us who love to work things out for ourselves.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:

17" [43 cm] brim circumference and 7½" [19 cm] deep 

YARN:

lark / 2 skeins / bird's egg 106 / Note: Sample used all of 1 skein. For swatching purposes, a second skein is required.

NEEDLES:

pair in size US 7 [4.5 mm]

GAUGE:

22 sts and 40 rows = 4" [10 cm] in waffle rib, after blocking

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Long-tail cast on, seaming (links provided); decreasing. Brioche sts used in pattern, instructions are included.
