introducing scarves, etc. 5
It's been a wintry and cold start to 2016 here in Maine. True to form, snowstorms (some of them thundersnow!) have been blanketing our January days. So it feels like perfect timing for us—today, we're very excited to share with you our first collection of the year: Scarves, Etc. 5!
Glorious colorwork: Flying Geese cowl in Owl, by Peg Blechman
For this fresh crop of patterns, we had the good fortune to work with nine talented designers—many of whom are new to Quince—and they've created a gorgeous and eclectic mix of projects for our yarns. In addition to scarves, there are shawls, cowls, wraps, and even a poncho; from delicate and lacy to substantial texture and color, we think there's something in this collection for every knitterly style or mood.
We have lovely, lightweight, and versatile:
Airy and delicate, left to right: Bradford cowl in Tern, by Ann Klimpert; Paperless stole in Piper, by Lesley Anne Robinson; Worcester shawl in Piper, by Bethany Hick
We have glorious textural stitches and unique embellishment:
Tactile delights, left to right: Waves in Lace shawl in Owl, by Peg Blechman; Liberty cowl in Osprey, by Ela Torrente; Gabriela cowl in Puffin with Lark accents, by Jennine Birrell
And last but not least, we have a celebration of shape and color:
Boldly beautiful, left to right: Marika shawl in Owl, by Noriko Ho; Cobbleway scarf in Lark, by Angela Tong; Nascha 2-color brioche poncho in Owl & Owl Tweet, by Andrea Mowry
The Scarves, Etc. 5 lookbook is expanded a bit from previous editions: This time around, we serve up a Q&A session with each of the designers, and from our side, we talk about what it was that especially drew us to these particular designs. It was (and always is) quite challenging to narrow down the submissions we receive for a single issue, so we thought it'd be nice to share a bit about how a collection like this takes shape.
We hope you enjoy this year's Scarves, Etc. installment! And don't forget, our sale on Scarves, Etc. from years past ends after today, so you'll want to scoop those up at special pricing while you still can.
