Our Story
At Quince & Co, we believe in the power of community, heritage, and the rich traditions of fiber arts, from knitting and crocheting to weaving and mending.
Our story begins in 2010 in Maine with Pam Allen, a well-respected hand knitting designer seeking to create a yarn company that celebrates natural fibers, sustainability the artistry of hand knitting —along with her deep love for birds. Pam blended her passion for the natural world and fibers by naming each Quince yarn collection after birds native to U.S. Northeast. After all, birds symbolize transformation and growth, reflecting the beauty and evolution inherent in the art of making.
Quince quickly established itself as a beloved name among knitters and makers alike, who cherish quality, authenticity, and the beauty of natural fibers. Inspired by the creativity of this passionate fiber community, Quince expanded beyond yarn, introducing knitting tools and accessories through its brand, Twig & Horn. Twig & Horn presents in-house designed pieces created to enhance the knitting experience, including the ever-popular Canvas Cross-Body Project Tote.
As Quince continued to grow, so did our community, leading to the launch of Quince Quarterly (QQ) —our popular subscription program. Each quarter of the year, QQ subscribers receive a curated package featuring yarn, a coordinating pattern, and a special surprise gift. With every passing year, we remain dedicated to delivering an exceptional fiber experience, fueled by love and passion for the craft.
At Quince, we believe that less processing and thoughtful choices result in better yarns—that create everlasting garments and accessories that are built to last, cherished by their makers and wearers, and kinder to the Earth. Every fiber, from linen to alpaca, has its place in our collection. We offer hearty wool and wool blends for the cooler months and breathable cotton and linen options for spring and summer.
In 2023, Quince embarked on a new exciting chapter by joining the Lion Brand Yarn family, A New Jersey based 5th generation, family-owned and operated leading yarn company respected globally for over 145 years. The transition reinvigorated our passion and creativity, marking a blending of two rich histories, each rooted in a deep love for yarn and the communities. It brings together a shared purpose of creating a more colorful, connected, comforting & caring world. Together, we continue to honor our legacy while embracing new opportunities to grow and connect with fiber enthusiasts worldwide.
As we celebrate 15 years, our commitment to sustainable, high quality natural fibers from the finest mills across the U.S —and around the globe—remains steadfast. We are grateful for the continued support of you our Quince community...our Quince family and are excited to see what we will create together over the next 15!
