Sapir's Wharf

Sometimes the best designs begin with a story, and such is the case with Sapir's Wharf. Inspired by her beloved birds, Sapir and Whorf, designer Caroline Gilmore created these socks as a tribute to her feathery companions. She named her two birds after the linguists and anthropologists Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf. In turn, the birds brought companionship and inspiration to Caroline's life.

Further inspired by fishing wharves, Caroline translated these influences into a richly detailed design knit in Starling. A textured stitch pattern flows from cuff to toe, recalling weathered dock planks, while a contrasting colorwork band brings Sapir and Whorf soaring across the leg, tying together the story behind Sapir's Wharf.
