damsel and lacewing

Our exclusive designs for Quince Quarterly's summer 2019 boxes, Damsel and Lacewing, recently were made available for everyone. Designed for us by Josée Paquin in our super soft, lovely cotton yarns—Willet (sport/dk weight) and Whimbrel (worsted weight)—these summer shawls are quick, satisfying, and, as our QQ subscribers say, have an awesome drape.

As I write at the tail end of a relatively sunny, gorgeous January here in Maine, I think back to packing day for this box at the very beginning of summer. We nestled print patterns, skeins of Willet and Whimbrel, and other treats into hundreds (and hundreds) of boxes to be sent out to our QQ folks. Each time I get to be involved in packing day for QQ, I (somehow, still, after looking at Quince yarn every day for the last eight years) get super excited when I pack each new color into a box, a little jealous of the person who gets to receive this package in the mail and be surprised by what we've thoughtfully and lovingly curated for them.

And, I'm always pumped to see folks knitting the projects, being delighted at opening their boxes, and sharing their knitting lives with us and with each other.

So here are just a few of my favorite photos from Instagram and Ravelry of projects, finished and in progress, from our Quince Quarterly summer 2019 edition. Enjoy!

Level 1: Damsel in Willet

The allover lattice of eyelet diamonds in this classic triangle shape, worked sideways from right tip to wide left edge, showcases Willet's wonderful stitch definition. Originally worked up in pretty Windlass, it's been amazing to see this shawl come alive in all the colors that went into the boxes.

Level 2: Lacewing in Whimbrel

Many folks posting on this piece have truly appreciated the simplicity of this design, and the speed at which it can be worked up, with lovely results. Worked sideways with a garter body and a fun, feathery lace panel in our luscious worsted weight cotton, this piece is made for warm weather knitting (and wearing!).

We started shipping the Winter Twenty Twenty boxes just at the new year, and it's wonderful to see the WIPs and unboxing photos popping up! Especially exciting for me because the Level 2 pattern was designed by yours truly ;) It's such a huge honor to be featured this time around.

Subscriptions open again at the beginning of March. Make sure you're signed up to receive our e-letter and you'll be the first to know when they are available.
